BREIF INFORMATION ABOUT MY GULBARGA
GULBARGA was known as
'KALBURGI' in former days which means stony land in Kannada. Gulbarga district
is situated in the northern part of Karnataka State. In the earlier days,
Gulbarga was a district of Hyderabad Karnataka area and became a part of Karnataka
State after re-organ ization of states.
Recorded history of
this district dates back to the 6th Century A.D. The Rashtrakutas gained
control over the area but the Chalukyas regained their domain within a short
period and regained supreme for over two hundred years. The Kalahari's who
succeeded them ruled till the 12th Century AD. Around the close of the 12th
century.
Sharanabasaveshwara Temple
The Sharana Basaveshwara temple is situated in
Gulbarga in the Karnataka state.The city of Gulbarga has a fine blend of both
the Hindu and Mughal cultures. Other places close to the Sharana Basaveshwara
temple are Feroze Shah’s mausoleum, Haft Gumbuz, Ghias Ud Din’s tomb, gardens of Mahboob Gulshan and so on. It was invaded

Gaisu Daraz was a murid
(disciple) of the noted Sufi saint of Delhi, Hazrat Nasiruddin Chiragh Dehlavi. After the
death of Chiragh Dehlavi, Gaisu Daraz took on the mantle of the successor.When he moved to Daulatabad around 1398, owing to the attach of Timur on Delhi, he took
the Chishti Order to South Indea.
He finally settled down in Gulbarga, at the invitation ofBahamani Sultan, Taj ud-Din Firuz Shah.

Masjid Gulbarga was built by Muhammad Shah
I (r. 1358-75) to commemorate Gulbarga
as the capital of the Bahmani Sultanate. The Bahmani dynasty was
founded by Ala al-Din Hasan Bahman Shah, a Bahmin's servant at the court of Muhammad bin Tughluq. The Bahmanids
established themselves in Gulbarga once the Delhi
Sultanate began losing its hold.
